Meditation

We are very much more aware about our mental health and the problems it can bring. I myself have been a huge journey over the last 5 years and if you told me prior to this I would be meditating chalk writing on a tarmac floor saying 'you got this'twice a day I would have thought you had lost the plot!

I became very ill in March 2019 and today still suffer daily.  One of the things that I realised was my mental health was terrible and this plays a massive part in my illness.  There is just no avoiding the stresses of life but there are a lot of things we can do and change to improve our mental wellbeing.

I meditate twice a day and always notice the difference in how I feel if I don’t, I have also managed to get Matilda to meditate as well, I notice a huge difference in her mental health if she doesn’t meditate.

2 hands on a book writing with a pen in a journal, with a laptop, cup of black coffee, photos and other booksMeditation can give you a sense of calm, peace and balance that can benefit your emotional well-being and overall health.  Meditation can also be used for relaxation and help you to cope with stress by focusing on something that calms you. Meditation can help you learn to stay centered and keep inner peace.  Gratitude is also something that plays a huge part in our mental health, every day I think of at least 3 things I am grateful for and think about how that makes me feel.

Journalling

Journalling is something else I do; I don’t know why but the act of physically writing down how you feel and what has happened during the day improves my mental state.  I always kept a diary when I was younger but this now seems to be called journalling, journalling can help you prioritise problems, fears and concerns, it can help you Lady with red hair wearing a black and white gilet kissing a black and white horse with a red headcollar and red lead ropetrack day to day symptoms and recognise triggers and learn how to cope with these better by working out a plan to resolve problems and reduce stress.

Other Self Help Activities

The other activities I love to do is walk in the woods, there is something so calming about being around the trees.  I also love to take time for myself by having a soak in the bath, I often play a meditation in the bath as well or I read, reading is something I love to do and make sure I read at least one page a day.

And of course, the other activity I love is being around my horses, they give me a sense of calm, they never judge me and are always so pleased to see me, even if it is because I am their slave who feeds and cares for them!!
