The inspiration behind the Equihandee Core Support came from a chance meeting with a parent and their severely disabled daughter. All this little girl wanted to do was ride her pony, but due to her disability, she had no core strength and would fold in the middle, making it incredibly difficult to support her safely from the ground. Yet, seeing her beautiful face light up the moment she sat on her pony changed everything. That little girl's joy inspired us to design a specialised riding aid that targets the torso directly, providing essential structural support right where it is needed most.

The Equihandee Core Support stabilises and holds the child’s core while they are in the saddle, enabling them to sit upright and be supported with much greater ease. By taking away the exhausting struggle to stay upright, it allows children with conditions like cerebral palsy or severe low muscle tone to truly experience the pure joy of riding, while giving parents and side-walkers a secure, manageable way to guide them.

How It Works

The Equihandee Core Support works by pairing physical torso stabilisation with the extraordinary therapeutic movement of the horse. When a horse walks, its pelvis moves in a rhythmic, three-dimensional pattern (up and down, side to side, and back and forth) that exactly mimics the multi-dimensional movement of a human gait. By securely supporting the child's core from the ground via our sturdy rear handle, the adult effortlessly holds the rider's trunk in perfect alignment. This allows the child's lower body to safely relax and absorb the natural, walking-pace impulses from the horse, turning every ride into a powerful, passive physical therapy session.
